Clarence Williams III was one of the three main characters in the police drama “The Mod Squad” which ran from 1968-1973.  He played Lincoln “Linc” Hayes along with Michael Cole’s Pete Cochran and Peggy Lipton’s Julie Barnes. A trio of “hippies” and ne’er-do-wells recruited off the streets by their captain, Adam Greer (Tige Andrews).

Never carrying guns, the three relied on their wits and (with Link and Pete) sometimes their fists and feet to get out of a jam. Linc was stoic and serious but was famous for his one-liners like his signature “Solid!”

The Mod Squad turned all three into international stars and was the epitome of cool in the turbulent years of the late 60s and early 70s.

A while after I completed this painting, I was lucky enough to meet Michael Cole at the Hollywood Show in Los Angeles. Aside from getting a cool autograph, I got to chat with Michael who told me “I can tell you’re a good guy.” Well, Michael, you made my day and gave me a personal connection to a show I’ve enjoyed for years–so much so that I had to paint a character from it.

The painting measures 16 inches by 20 inches and is painted in oil. This one-of-a-kind, original artwork will ship UNFRAMED. This portrait of Clarence Williams III is taken from the opening credits of the show with Williams’ credit appearing in the foreground in a freeze frame. Fans of the Mod Squad can do themselves a “solid” and snap up Clarence for their own home.
