“Book ’em, Danno!”

With sweeping shots of Waikiki Beach and a super fast zoom onto the top of the Ilikai Hotel, he turns to face the camera. It’s Steve McGarrett, chief of Hawaii 5-0, ready to take on anyone who tries to commit crime on this island paradise. Jack Lord, already a recognized name in film and TV, played the role of McGarrett from 1968 to 1980, making Hawaii 5-0 one of the longest-running prime time dramas in TV history.

Beautiful scenery, a great supporting cast and varied and unusual villains all made for one of TV’s most memorable shows. And don’t forget the theme! The 2010 reboot of 5-0 HAD to use the same music. It just wouldn’t be 5-0 without it. Jack Lord brought a toughness to the role. We knew no one would get away from McGarrett and that even if by force of will alone, 5-0 would bring the bad guys to justice. And of course no episode would be complete without McGarrett telling Dan Williams (James MacArthur) to “Book ’em, Danno!”
